Het Huis van Houbigant bestaat al sinds 1775 en is het enige parfumhuis dat al vier eeuwen lang bestaat.
Gedurende al die eeuwen hebben de parfumeurs van het Huis van Houbigant baanbrekende ontdekkingen gedaan in de samenstelling van parfums, waardoor de manier waarop parfums worden gemaakt voor altijd is gekanteld. Het begon allemaal met een mand vol bloemen. Op een dag in 1775 hing een jonge man, Jean-Francois Houbigant, in Parijs een met de hand geschilderd bord met een mand vol bloemen boven zijn kleine winkeltje in de rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Vanaf het begin waren zijn parfums in trek bij vorsten en edelen. Houbigant leerde de adellijke dames aan het hof van Versailles hoe ze hun waaiers moesten parfumeren, zodat een geurige wappering een romantische boodschap overbracht.
