FOLIC ACID

It is a B vitamin that is converted within the body into folate to be biologically active. The human body needs folate as it contributes to the normal formation of blood cells, the process of cell division and the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy. In early pregnancy, between days 22 and 28 from conception, folate plays an important role in closing the fetal neural tube, as low maternal folate is a risk factor for neural tube defects in the fetus. developing fetus. Supplemental intake of folic acid increases maternal folate level. Therefore, it is recommended that women take 400 µg of supplemental folic acid daily for a period of at least one month before conception and up to three months after.
