Operating since 1775, the House of Houbigant is the only fragrance house that has existed through four centuries of history.
Through these centuries, the perfumers of the House of Houbigant have made groundbreaking discoveries in the formulation of perfumes that have revolutionized forever the way perfumes are constructed. It is not an exaggeration to say that, without the House of Houbigant, modern perfumery as we know it today would not exist.
It all began with just a basket of flowers. One day in Paris in 1775, a young man, Jean-Francois Houbigant, hung a hand painted sign of a basket of flowers over his little shop in rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. From the start his fragrances found favour with royalty and the nobility. Houbigant taught the titled women at the Court of Versailles how to perfume their fans so that just a fragrant flutter would send out a romantic message.

It is a timeless perfume, which retains the classic French style, but clearer, more legible, more subtle and that gives pride, as in the past, to the materials; the flowers, the woods, more than to the concept.
La Collection Privée
La Collection Privée is a collection of precious essences, blended only with pristine, pure, authentic ingredients in extreme concentrations to guarantee superior, potent, highly-nuanced fragrances. While being resolutely modern in the creation of its juices, the Collection Privée honors the history of Houbigant, giving a new life to the bottles and the names that have made the history of the house.

Top Notes: This soft floral likely opens with bright, sparkling notes. While not explicitly stated, considering the "classic French style" and Jean Claude Ellena's signature, these might include delicate citrus nuances like bergamot or mandarin, potentially combined with green notes like galbanum for a fresh, natural opening.
Heart Notes: The heart of Essence Rare showcases the beauty of its floral components. Expect a luxurious bouquet, possibly featuring rose, jasmine, or other elegant florals like lily of the valley or tuberose. The description emphasizes "clearer, more legible" suggesting a focus on the natural character of these flowers, avoiding overly complex or abstract accords.
Base Notes: The base provides a warm and lasting foundation. Given the mention of "woods," expect creamy, sensual notes like sandalwood or cedarwood. These are likely balanced by softer elements like musk or amber to create a smooth, lingering drydown that complements the floral heart. The emphasis on "materials" suggests a focus on high-quality, natural ingredients, creating a refined and elegant finish.
