D.S. & Durga is named after its founders, Kavi, (a.k.a Durga), an architect and David (a.k.a D.S.) a self-taught perfumer. This brand is a high perfumery brand based in Brooklyn, therefore New York DNA can be found in each of their creations, they even still create make all of their fragrances in their tiny apartment.
Each perfume tells us a different story, and each scent has its own playlist on Spotify. They create a perfume for anything they love: music, nature, art… There is a whole world inside each bottle. Their moto, perfume is an armchair travel, is based on the belief that “the power of scent is equal to that of sight and sound”.

I came of age working in NYC restaurants. Working in food service forever influences your understanding of the world. You’re literally in “the place to be” in the frenzy of service (8:30 on a Friday night).
It’s electric: yelling orders, laughter, oft shitty music your lame boss makes you listen to on repeat, crazy line cooks, drinking, first dates, possibilities, old friends. The world outside is cut off by the bistro’s walls. Inside, we escape or go inwards to experience the scene, the aroma, the food.
This is a snapshot of a 90s-00s NY Bistro when tourists ordered peartinis, veggies got fancy, & people wore fresh aquatic fumes.
