Here's how to properly use a reusable hot and cold gel pack for therapeutic purposes: To use it for cold therapy, place the gel pack in the freezer for at least two hours. Once sufficiently cold, remove it and wrap it in a thin cloth or towel to protect your skin from direct contact. Apply the wrapped pack to the affected area for no more than 20 minutes at a time.
For heat therapy, you can heat the pack in the microwave or in hot water. If microwaving, start with short intervals (10-15 seconds) and check the temperature frequently to avoid overheating. If using hot water, immerse the pack for several minutes until it reaches the desired temperature. Always wrap the pack in a cloth before applying it to your skin.
Apply for up to 20 minutes. Allow your skin to return to a normal temperature between applications. You can use the pack several times a day, as needed, following these precautions. Always monitor your skin for any adverse reactions, such as redness or irritation. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
